Ski Yoghurt Factory

History

The Lactalis- Nestlé factory In Cuddington closed in 2007 after 158 years of production with the loss of more than 100 staff members. It was announced the production of Ski and Munch Bunch yoghurts will shift to Continental Europe.
as it was found that Production in Cuddington, Cheshire, was no longer viable, according to management at Lactalis-Nestlé UK & Ireland.
Towards the end, there was 101 staff making multi-pack stirred yoghurts including Ski, Munch Bunch and own-label products for retailers.
In a local paper earlier this year plans have been arranged to turn the former Cheshire yoghurt factory into a top of the range housing development have been given the green light.

Cheshire West and Chester Council approved proposals by Ainscough Strategic Land (ASL) to redevelop the 20-acre former Nestle ski yoghurt factory in Cuddington.

In a £40 million development, the existing factory site will be transformed to include 156 family homes, a wildflower meadow, a community building and a new controlled junction to slow traffic on the A49.

Arrived Nestlé at midday after exploring another site down the road. It turned out to be a nice and easy explore and it was a bright sunny day which made it even more perfect. When We got over the fence the sheer size of the place took us by shock. To date We`ve never explored anything like that, We started at the loading bay at the bottom of the site and it was dark and dingy in places, when We walked across the room to the light on the other side there was loads and loads of plastic beads strewn across the floor which presumably for making the yogurt pots with. We headed upstairs checking out the offices and the lift which looked rather dodgy, so We went up further to the top floor which looked to be science labs or where the yogurts were produced You can’t really tell because there’s nothing left, just a few dead pigeons and air conditioning units. The wind blowing through makes for a real post apocalyptic feel. Back down a few flights of stairs there’s a tunnel linking the different buildings on site the tunnel itself has had its end cut off so You can’t walk the whole length. Back outside where the tunnel would have ended are the canteen and the admin block with manikins and old Munch Bunch yogurt pots littering the place, You can still smell the ingredients they put in.

In the admin block theirs old paper work and blueprints of the factory a good place to sit down and have a break The place is well and truly trashed stuff everywhere but there’s some cool stuff to look at. At the top of the site there are what looked to be a huge cooling system and storage tanks some were cut in half so You can get in after  We messed around here for a bit We headed back to the car. It’s amazing there was no security around the place.
