University Of Derby

 History

University of Derby College, Buxton is located on Harpur Hill in Buxton, Derbyshire

Formerly known as High Peaks College, it became part of the University of Derby in 1998. The Harpur Hill Campus closed in 2006 as the University moved into their newly refurbished spa facilities at the Devonshire campus in the centre of Buxton.

Derby University can be dated back to 1850's where various schools joined together over the following years which helped the university achieve the skills to offer a verity of subjects. These amalgamated schools became the Derbyshire College of Higher Education. It was one of only a couple of colleges of higher education to gain university status in 1992.

May & July 2010

Went to Harpur Hill twice and on both occasions it was extremely quiet,  but on the second visit there were a group of lads there on bmx`s. At first We startled each other and then We got on and they showed us around the University and showed us a lot of bits We missed the first time which was good of them didn’t get their names but if there looking they know who they are. This place is massive and You can easily spend four or five hours exploring it, looks like all the equipment books, computers, tables, science stuff everything that belonged to the University has been left by them. According to the lads We met, there used to be drug users so be careful where You put Your hands. Plenty of photo opportunities to be had so get Yourselves there.
